Urgent Humanitarian Appeal: No Pride in Genocide; Stop the Genocide in Gaza and Save What Remains of Global Conscience
The Alliance for Diversity and Inclusion urgently calls on the United Nations; the Security Council; the Arab League; and all states and organizations signatory to human rights treaties and international humanitarian law to act immediately to stop the ongoing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023; which has so far led to the killing of over 60,000 civilians and the disappearance of thousands more; amidst the complete destruction of civil infrastructure and a total blockade of humanitarian aid.
The 17-year siege has turned into a policy of mass killing by the Israeli occupation authorities against more than two million civilians; through indiscriminate bombing; starvation; destruction of hospitals and schools; and the prevention of food, medicine, and water — all in flagrant violation of the right to life; health; dignity; and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
Children; the elderly; women; LGBTIQ+ individuals; people with disabilities; and those with chronic illnesses are among the most affected. Gaza has become a theater of slow death; while the world watches in unjustified silence.
We affirm: there is no pride in genocide; the exploitation of gender justice and LGBTIQ+ rights to whitewash occupation regimes through “pinkwashing” is unacceptable. Our causes are part of the broader struggle against violence; including colonialism and apartheid.
We commend the role of Francesca Albanese; the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories; who has been a courageous voice within the UN system. In her reports; particularly “From the Occupation Economy to the Genocide Economy”; she documents how global political and economic interests fuel ongoing violations against Palestinians.
In her most recent report; Albanese highlights the dangerous role of multinational corporations in enabling Israel’s war machine through the provision of weapons; technology; and logistical support; making them complicit in the genocide. Continuing to fund or consume from these companies is a form of complicity; we therefore call on governments; institutions; and individuals to end all support for such corporations; hold them legally accountable; and impose sanctions and boycotts until their involvement ceases.
We reaffirm our full support for Ms. Albanese and her mandate; which embodies the core of international law; and demand the implementation of her recommendations and the prosecution of all perpetrators.
We also applaud Belgium for arresting Israeli soldiers suspected of war crimes during their participation in the “Tomorrowland” festival; a rare step toward international accountability. We urge other nations to follow suit in upholding justice and protecting the human rights system.
The Alliance calls for the following:
1. Immediate cessation of all military actions targeting civilians in Gaza; and an end to genocide and starvation policies;
2. Full opening of crossings for humanitarian aid; especially food and medical supplies; and evacuation and care for the most vulnerable;
3. Immediate end to the use of siege and starvation as weapons of war; and guarantee SRHR for all;
4. Prosecution of Israeli leaders and all those involved in war crimes before the International Criminal Court;
5. Implementation of UN and ICJ resolutions calling for an end to the occupation and justice for Palestinians;
6. Cease support for corporations complicit in Israel’s war efforts and hold them internationally accountable; imposing sanctions and boycotts;
7. Ensure protection for marginalized groups; especially LGBTIQ+ individuals; women; and people with disabilities; and guarantee their access to justice and aid without discrimination;
Over two million people; including the most marginalized voices; are facing famine and death; while waiting for the world’s conscience to awaken.
We issue this call to all who remain silent; individuals; organizations; academics; civil society;
Do not let fear of retaliation or loss of funding silence your conscience;
Silence in the face of genocide is complicity; neutrality is impossible when crimes against humanity are committed before our eyes;
Justice is indivisible; solidarity is not measured by national interests; Gaza is calling — let us respond before it is too late;
